5 Ways to Market Your Business with the Mobile Web

It’s estimated that more than 64 million Americans have access to the mobile web. It’s also estimated that the typical user spends close to five minutes per session on the mobile web. Both of these numbers are project to rise, not fall, which proves mobile media is an excellent way to communicate with your market.
As you explore ways to market your business on the mobile web, consider these five marketing tactics.
- Mobile Friendly Web Design
Mobile friendly web design is crucial. Flash design is out of the question and so are large chunks of text. Create a mobile site that is quick to load, easy to read, and contains a clear path to your contact page.
Email Marketing
Your email subscribers are reading eblasts from their phones. Just like with web design, your emails should be easy to read from mobile devices.
Not sure whether your target market reads email with a mobile device? Conduct an email survey to get the hard facts.
- SMS/Text Messaging
Invite customers to send you a text message so they can receive a particular coupon or offer in return. Once you have captured mobile numbers and the subsequent “opt-in” you will have access to an audience who cares about your message.
Keep in mind that all text messaging should contain valuable information not sheer advertising. In addition to coupons, send links to surveys, invitation to events, and relevant links to your site.
- Send Them Tunes
SmartPhones make it simple to access music on the web. Depending on the user, he or she may even use a SmartPhone as an MP3 player.
What does this mean for your business?
This means two things. One, if it makes sense to advertise on a mobile music site, do so. Second, find creative ways to incorporate playlists, theme songs, or jingles into your marketing campaign. There are licensing fees and copyright laws to abide, but if the majority of the mobile market is accessing music through their mobile devices, shouldn’t you be part of the action?
- Advertising
Advertising is an effective way to capture your mobile audience. Banner ads and pay-per-click advertising is available on the mobile web just like it is for the web accessed through PCs and laptops.
